Every student wants their teacher do or gives something new in the learning process. Everything new will gain their enthusiasm and their attention during the learning process. What kind of something new then? It is can be the media that is used by teacher, the activities of the material, the sitting arrangement, and so on. But, unluckily there are some of teachers that busy with their own businesses, so they cannot prepare that something new and creative for their teaching process. For education today already applied to integrate the teaching and learning process with technology. That is why the teachers that always busy with their businesses can use technology to make it efficient and effective. For integrating technology in the learning process, teachers must take care of the facilities on the class, whether it is support or not. So, the teachers can use or prepare another plan to replace the first plan.
Then, what kind of online activities that become interesting and new thing for students? Below, I will tell you some plans that can be used in your learning process and of course it is integrating with technology or online tools. So, students must have the access on internet.
1. Ask students to create a Podcast
In order to increase students’ listening and speaking skills students are asked to create a podcast based on the topic that has been made by the teacher. Here, the teacher divides students into some groups and ask them to do the discussion based on the topic that has been decided, then record their discussion and upload it on the Soundcloud or another tool that can be used for upload mp3 file format. But, before asked them to the discussion and record it, the teacher must introduce them on the new vocabularies related with the topic. Then students will easily do their discussion with their group.
2. Create an online group discussion on the Facebook, WhatsApp, LINE, Telegram, or etc.
Class will be off tomorrow because of national day or public holiday? Don’t worry, there are so many tools that can be used for doing the discussion in order to replace the off class. The teacher can make online discussion on WhatsApp, Facebook, or etc then the teacher asked some question that must be answered or discussed by students. The comments from students will be taken as the attendance list. Maybe if the teacher wants to give students some additional score, it can be taken from online discussion. Online discussion will let students improve their writing and reading skills.
3. Ask students to make a mini drama then upload it on YouTube
Do you have students that are very active and talk active? You may try to give your students some videos from YouTube related with mini drama, then asked them to make a mini drama in a group work and the theme of their mini drama has been made by the teacher. So, they only choose one of the themes that have been made by the teacher. After they finished for making the script of the mini drama, they have to practice it and record it by their camera. After that they have upload it into YouTube. For the next meeting the teacher may choose one of the video that uploaded on YouTube for to be given the review or feedback.
Those are online activities that can increase students’ attention through the lesson, and of course it will increase their four skills in English (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
